Update on Unlikely Wife- Update 2

Update: 9/10/11: Unlikely Wife will be heading to Germany to be with her husband tomorrow evening. He is okay, but they want to take care of some things before moving him stateside.

Unlikely Wife's husband will be stateside this weekend and she will hopefully get to see him then. A mutual friend checked in on him today and he is doing well, all things considered. I know this whole experience is a huge game changer for both of them, but I can't undersell the point that he's alive, he's stable, and it sounds like they are going to be able to pull through this together. In a week of bad news, these good points are worth holding onto and rallying around.

Kat and I have chatted off and on the past couple of days. The shock is starting to wear off and she is starting to process all that has happened. His Mom is with her, so she is not alone. She has had wonderful people step up and arrange places to stay and foster homes for her dogs near the hospital where her husband will be. It has been amazing to watch the outpouring of love and support for their family. Let's just keep up the good work.

To that end, I am collecting cards and letters of support for both of them. Email: easternalbanianophioliteATyahooDOTcom if you would like to send a card. I will give you my address and then I will bundle them into a plastic container (for easy maintenance in the hospital environment) and pass them along upon receipt. Also, you can feel free to share my address with people you know who would also like to send support. This will be very helpful.

I am so horribly sad this happened. I cried all day Wednesday when I found out, but now that I have had a chance to step back from it and see all of the wonderful support that is rolling in, I do not feel as grim about things as I initially did. Unlikely Wife is one of the strongest, kindest, most wonderful women I know. I have every faith that she and her husband will come through this and be stronger and better for it. Some of that strength, in no small measure, will come directly from you. Please keep that love, prayer, support and faith for them. It makes a HUGE difference.

It's important to note that this will be a LONG HAUL for them and their families. It's wonderful that people are stepping up now, but they will still need help for some time. Even if you can't help right now, I ask that you 1) keep them in your thoughts and prayers and 2) stay engaged, so that if you can help fill a need down the road, we can get you in position to fill those needs as they arise.

Thank you all, again, for being so AMAZING! I know Kat really appreciates it.
