Letters to the Editor: Military Spouse Appreciation Day

So Wednesday, when I was banned from doing anything else thanks to pipettor-gate, I wrote two letters to the editors of local papers. One that I shopped to both the campus newspaper and the city newspaper and one to our larger regional paper. Here are the links:

Kansas City Star:http://blogs.kansascity.com/unfettered_letters/2011/05/military-spouse-appreciation-day.html

Lawrence Journal World: http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2011/may/06/show-support/

These two papers contacted me back to confirm I had written the letters, so I was pretty certain they would be published. I figured the campus paper would not be. I checked any way and found that the letter had been published but had been attributed to another student. I am awaiting retraction of the mis-step.

Here is the Daily Kansan piece: http://www.kansan.com/news/2011/may/06/unruh-dont-over-look-day-celebrates-military-spous/

As you can see it is word for word the same text and uses many turns of phrase from my previous posts on my blog, including the letter I wrote about Glamour's surrogacy article. I really hope this was someone's honest mistake and that it will be corrected quickly.

I just wanted to tell you that as a fellow military spouse I appreciate the voice and efforts that you so often lend to the military spouse community. Thank you for what you do.

Thanks Allie. I'm blushing. I don't do that much. I just punch out a few words, mostly out of my own need to try to make sense of my life. If it helps others, I count it as bonus.
I was really inspired by Jessica to finally speak up about the strain military spouses are under, because I go to work every day and feel alienated by my co-workers who dismiss any difficulty as "that's what you signed up for." I feel like many spouses are really scarred by the wars and need help, but remain invisible to the American public. I just want to make sure that their wounds are seen, so we can get all of us the support we really need.
Cheers,
Slightly Rifted

FYI the school paper, after I chatted with them on the phone, corrected the misattribution.

that's good! A mistake is better than a "borrowing"
