Job Applications, or why I decided on graduate school

My fellowship ends this summer. My advisors are kind of broke and I am left trying to figure out how to pay for school this summer, well and living expenses. The department offers $1500 for the summer in aid, but they require that you sign a contract that you will work full time on your research alone for the money. Tuition is ~$750, so you can see how the math makes things difficult. It will be my fall-back position.
So, I applied to 6 jobs today. The federal jobs try my patience in a way that is difficult to explain. I mean how hard is it really to just upload one's resume and use a search algorithm to organize my experiences into the format you want? And really, what the hell with the multiple forms that ask me the same info in a different order. There are better ways to tell if someone is lying, like a background check. This really makes taking the GRE, writing an application essay and collecting transcripts seem easy by comparison. This must be why I ended up in graduate school ;D.
But the forms are filled out and were sent in, so now it's a matter of waiting. I just can't believe it took 1/2 of the day for 6 applications. Though I admit it would have been longer if I hadn't known how to cut and paste like the crazy fiend I am... crazy

Good luck. I hope you land a job you have to do outside. That would be amazing.

Actually, I am hoping for a lab rat position at a National Lab, in part because I'd be close to LAW and the hubs, though the word on the street is that he will be IAed shortly after arriving at his next command, so if that's the case then it might not be so important to try to get to the coast this summer.
I was offered some contract work here, but it will depend on the amount of work and the salary whether it would be a good choice.
But you make a good point...I should check with the national park service and see what they have. Thanks for being so brilliant Kat. I'd be lost without y our brilliance :)
