What you can do to protect military families in the event of a government shutdown...

At the close of business tomorrow, the US military will continue to fight and die in Afghanistan. They will continue to show up for duty around the world. And they will do so without pay.
There is a bill before the House right now that would protect military pay in case of a government shutdown this weekend. I implore you to contact your Congressman and Senators and ask them to support legislation to protect military pay in the event of a shutdown.
We have been told that in addition to losing our paychecks, military families living on bases around the world will go without repairs to government housing if the shutdown occurs. Imagine losing your heat and not being able to get someone to fix it. Many young enlisted families live at or below the poverty line, so while there is a small cushion for Senior Jefe and I if this happens, these people may not be able to put food on the table let alone pay their bills.
It will take less than 30 minutes of your time to pick up the phone and ask your representatives to protect the people who get up everyday, put on their uniform and serve and protect you. Will you join me in protecting them at this time of uncertainty?

Just go to this website: http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml and look up your officials and give them a call. Congressional Aides are standing by to take your call.
